I was introduced to the technique of batik during my training as a teacher in Liverpool in the 1970s. I continued working in this medium, selling through the Bluecoat display centre initially and then exhibiting more widely in the north-west.

Commissions for my exclusive 'wearable art' are wide-ranging and extend nation-wide and abroad and my work has been featured in 'crafts beautiful' and 'popular crafts' magazines. I have won several awards for my batik pictures including 'highly commended' in the Wirral open exhibition in 2001. I draw inspiration from my travels in Britain and France, exploring the essence of a place and aiming to capture space and light in my work.

I have taught silk painting and batik to adults in further education, run projects with children in schools in Liverpool and worked with adults with mental health needs in Manchester. I continue to run a programme of batik workshops for the Merseyside Maritime Museum, Liverpool. These include drop-in sessions for the public and whole day sessions for adults.
